New Growth

This I found while crawling around last night down at the creek. This is new growth on a small piece of moss. I'm learning how to shoot in raw and this one was done in raw. I did a bit of tweaking in the process of converting it from raw and then in ps I tweaked the curves a tad to bring up the greens.

I've been having problems with my dial-up and haven't been able to visit as many sites as I usually want. I apologize and will visit as soon as my dial-up allows me to stay on long enough to do so... hopefully, I can even get this uploaded!! ;-)

I liked the shallow DOF. But the highlights looks a bit blown out...

@Anup P: Thanks Anup. I appreciate all comments 'cuz that's how we learn ;-) I'm thinking the problem was that I had left my camera on a very high ISO from taking shots at a convocation so in combination with my choice of Fstop and shutter speed... oops.

Looks like u took the dual thing very serious, if so, then today you will have to run around and find orchids... ;-) Ok ok ssshhhh... no more teasing, lets rather focus on tempting LOLz...

Hey friend, just noticed that you have used ISO 1000 for this shot. Was the lighting really poor ? Higher ISO's come with grains pal. Try this with lower ISO and you will have a much sharper quality. :)

@Rahul: Hey Rahul! I'm cheating and answering both comments on this one.. Firstly, THANKS! Secondly, oops.. forgot I had left the camera on the high ISO and now that explains everything. Not used to using manual all the time yet ;-)

A very nice macro, Amy. I think the the blown out highlights and grain are just fine for this image.

@Robert: Thanks Robert! I liked the finished product myself but am now aware of HOW I got them. Must pay more attention to my ISO when I've been changing it. Ooops ;-)

Don't worry about the grain. It's actually quite nice combined with the shallow dof - especially in the lower left corner. Moss is really quite interesting up close like that.

@Roberta Murray: Hey Roberta! I liked the final image, too. But now I know why I was having such problems with the lighting... forgot to change my ISO back down from 1000!!! Must pay closer attention...

@Craiger: Wow! Thanks a zillion Craig!! Even my boo boos can sometimes work out for the best... because I did like the effect of this one. But shooting in raw now and getting used to that. ;-)

Hey Amy, no worries, manual mode is fun, i too had difficulties learning it. But trust me pal, once you learn it, you will not ever want to shoot using the presets. :) And D70 is cool camera.

Hey, sorry about the teasing earlier, you sure know i didnt mean it. :) That's one thing i can trust with you. Probably thats why we kinda rock hahaha...

@Rahul: No clues Rahul!! But we don't have pretty flowers yet like you do. Sigh.. I have worked in manual before.. long time ago... just have to reaquaint myself. The raw I already love. And no worries about the teasing my friend.. it's fun!!

Hey Amy...FABULOUS!! I really love it...I have never done RAW, don't think I can with my camera actually ???? I do manual settings from time to time but still learning that along with ps!! I really like the ps work you did, it seems like a painting more than a photo!!! Very nice, as always!!!

I am having the worst time with Am3 too!!! driving me nuts, but their response is they are having issues with their host and are trying to get that resolved and they know about comment/response issues too and are working on that...It takes me forever to get to like 3 sites and I have a cable modem and then I get knocked off ARGH!!!

@Jen: Love your visits, girl!! Thanks!! And no you probably can't do raw with yours... it's not a dslr is it? Most of the smaller digitals can't do raw... but don't quote me.. someone may know different ;-)

Yeah, I got the same response from AM3. It's frustrating for them, too. And I'm on dial-up so my surfing hasn't been very successful I'm afraid.

My heartfelt thanks and get thee to the camera store then. The lattitude of shooting in raw is just unbelievable (except when the mosquitoes are nibbling)!! Wait for tomorrow's post... Hi Amy:

Way to go girl! I started working with RAW just a bit ago - and its the only way to go. Which program are you using to process it? I've got Adobe Photoshop Lightroom which develops it beautfifully - no grain or artifacts no matter how much color you add, etc. You can just about do it all in Develop, in Lightroom. I think this is a lovely photo, perhaps if you just tweaked the highlights down a bit, it would be fantastic! :-)

@Anne: Hey Anne!! Thanks a zillion!! The program I've been using to convert the RAW is actually PS Elements 5. It kicks in when I'm downloading so I let it go... am looking into getting PS CS2.. But I do the rest of the processing in the old PS I have. I've never hear of PS Lightroom. Must look into this.. is it better than PS CS2? Cheaper?? And I signed up for the forum because it's an ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS idea!!
