York Boat relicPosted by amy (Nanaimo, BC, Canada) on 12 June 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. The fur traders would transport their bales of fur pelts up the river (the North Saskatchewan) in these York Boats manned by Voyageurs. This is a decaying replica of one those boats. You can view my gallery of images and calendar for sale at: cute but stupid . I'm slowly adding more to the site and if there is something in my portfolio you would like to purchase but is not available on my site just contact me and I'll make it available. I appreciate all visits and comments and thank you always... ;-)

Stunner from Kingston, JamaicaLovely shot and the effect is great! It's well composed. 12 Jun 2007 5:58am @Stunner: Thanks Stunner! I rarely use my wide angle lens... but this shot just screamed for it. ;-) @Inés: Hey Ines! Thanks! I walked around that boat a few times before I finally realized I needed to use my rarely used wide angle. ;-) Anne from White Rock, CanadaGreat PP work Amy. Love the composition of the old boat. Have been taking a peek back at some of your shots I missed - they are just beautiful! ;-) PS did you know that Nikon have a Codec on their web site so that you can "see" RAW photos in Windows Explorer. I also got a pleasant surprise when I found out I can also now open them in PS7 and edit them there! I was very happy that I could use a lot of my programs in Vista to start with - only thing I had to buy was an upgrade for Norton. 12 Jun 2007 7:02am @Anne: Thanks Anne! Glad you had a boo at them. Without sounding too immodest... there were a few I was very pleased with. And that's so great you only needed a Norton upgrade. Very interesting about the Codec from Nikon. How are you liking Vista? I've heard there's still a lot of bugs in it.. And best of all, you can still use your PS7!! It'll be easy for you to upgrade to CS3 when you can!!! @craiger: Hey Craig!! I do love that add noise feature... I just wish it was as easy to take it out as it is to add it!! LOL @kaveh: Thanks kaveh!! ;-) Jen from Jessup, United StatesGreat effect Amy! 12 Jun 2007 10:51am @Jen: You know the whole time I used film, I was so conscious of always having low ISO so I didn't have grain... wow, was that stupid. Grain is our friend!! Thanks for the f-bomb!!!!!!! ;-) @john: Thanks john! It just looked so much better like this... well, at least I thought so. ;-) @William: Thanks ;-) @yiannis krikis: Hi yiannis!! Thanks... I think the added noise is what really did this one up right. ;-) Roberta from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaHey Amy - you should use your wide angle more often! Glad you made it out on Sunday - hope you made it home before the storm, that now has me trying to deal with insurance, hit! 12 Jun 2007 4:35pm @Roberta: I know!! The wide angle is our friend!!! ;-) We didn't get hit by the storm... I really think it has to do with Cow Lake. The storms seem to split and go around it so we miss them. Hopefully, you didn't have too bad of damage. Levine from Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaNice PP on the image. Love he grains. Why not black and white? 12 Jun 2007 4:46pm @Levine: Thanks Levine! I didn't convert to b/w because it just didn't look right totally desaturated. The muted tones just had a better effect for this subject. Really appreciate your comment ;-) @Olaide: Wow! Now that's a compliment asking to purchase this shot!!! Unfortunately, at this time, it isn't. I don't have access to a decent printer and wouldn't sell anything that isn't printed properly. Thank you so much for that, tho'!!! ;-) Rahul from Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaGood shot, nice perspective and great PS work. You made it look like a hand painting. I would still love to see this shot at the 200 ISO which you had used. F22 sure would be very crisp and sharp. Show me show me.. haha.. And about converting to B&W, you can convert and apply a slight cooling filter and trust me the pic will rock. ;-) Check out my tomorrow's pic, its something similar, i mean the desaturation and a touch of cooling filter - very mild. :-) 12 Jun 2007 6:06pm @Rahul: Yeah, ok..... I'll try to post it sometime here in the future to show what it looked like before the changes. I'll let you know when I do in advance, ok? But I have some other things planned for the next few posts. Be patient my friend!! LOL Thanks for your enthusiasm Rahul... it keeps the juices flowing!!! ;-) @Vahid: Thank you so much Vahid!! ;-) bronzebilly u.k. from cardiff, United Kingdomhey cutes--nice job on this baby--not only clever use of the grain effect but also the colour rendition is summat else-not forgetting the angle of the horizon and the boat--you clever cutsie you--chest out-medal awarded--billy 12 Jun 2007 10:34pm @bronzebilly u.k.: You didn't need a nap after that long winded comment?!! billy, you know my head is swelling. Mr Amy is starting to complain... thanks, billy. Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomYou are mastering the PP really well Amy. I like the grain effect you have created, and the way you have colour managed the image. A great composition too, love the angle of the shot 12 Jun 2007 11:12pm @Richard_Irwin: Thank you so much for all of your words of encouragement. Does that sound like a broken record?! It's very gratifying to know when you haven't over PS'd an image... except when you mean to. ;-) @Laurie: Thanks Laurie. ;-) @Vickie: Thanks Vickie! ;-) Sidonie from Sydney, AustraliaMmm -I would have said "early Seurat" had I seem it at the Musee de Paume or some such place - very clear "texture" use in pp. 13 Jun 2007 1:50am @Sidonie: You sure know how to stump a person for a response.... humbly thanks... ;-) Manuela Photography from Hainburg, GermanyThe angle and composition are excellent. PP is interesting. Still curious to see this on a classic b&w shot... 13 Jun 2007 8:25am @Manuela Photography: Hey Manuela! Tell you what... sometime in the future here I'll do a b/w conversion and post it. You may be right... and thanks for your comment. I do really appreciate it! ;-) Robert from Oshawa, CanadaThis is fantastic, Amy. I love your grain treatment. It really enhances the image. Well done! 13 Jun 2007 11:34pm @Robert: Hi Robert! A little trickery with the photomerge HDR in CS2.... and some other tom-foolery I can't even remember now.. LOL Thanks so much... I love your visits. ;-) |
