I got this shot by trying to pan while all these hummingbirds were fighting over territory... as usual. I had never seen a hummingbird like this before. These Anna's Hummingbirds are definitely most striking with their bright pinkish-red heads. Needless to say, this shot was a fluke and not skill. But Hey! what the heck... I thought it made for a unique shot. I took this shot at the B&B we stayed at in Nanaimo on Vancouver Isand.
Just tell me what you think. I'm a big girl.... I won't cry for long. ;-)

Nice shot and i like the borders here. Its really worth spending time to prepare a pic for a perfect presentation like this one here. :-) Another lesson learned. ;-) If only i had time though. LOL!!!

@Blackdog: Hi mike!! There's none better than nature for colour... thanks!! ;-)
You caught it really well, and what a pretty hummingbird this is. I've never seen them, so your picture is really nice to look at

@Richard_Irwin: Hi Richard!! Just wish I could've gotten a better shot than this one... sigh... little blighters just weren't giving me a break. Usually the way to get better shots is to sit still 'till they come to you but these guys just wouldn't co-operate and my time line was fairly fixed. ;-)
hey cutes--ace framing on this baby-you've caught a great pic'. of one of your fave subjects again--well done you--b.t.w.larf =laugh--come on snap to it;-))--I'm off to google this Nanaimo place--looks interesting--norstar carriad--billy

@bronzebilly u.k.: Ok, I figured it was laugh... sigh.. still on vacation in my grey matter.. what can I say?! But now you're testing me with the norstar carriad... wtf??? Quit laughing... ok, laugh, I would... ;-)
I really do wish I could've gotten a better shot of these hummingbirds. Damn they were gorgeous... but not in the least bit co-operative.. little buggers!! Jeesh!! But I did get some decent ones of the rufous - check tomorrow.
You're so lucky. I haven't had much success photogaphing the hummingbirds at the feeder on our front porch.

@Robert: And luck is what this shot was all about!! LOL They are so tricky to capture. I find the biggest trick is sitting just far enough away from the feeder that you don't appear to be a threat and moving slowly to frame the shot while they're feeding so that when they do move you just leave your finger on the shutter release and keep shooting. Auto focus is the best and I use at least 400 ISO. Now if only my hummers would show up during the day. I just don't have many this year... again.... sigh. ;-)
Congrats on the lucky shot. What a beautiful bird! I am side-tracked by your mention of Nanaimo. What I remember most about Vancouver Island is home-made Nanaimo bars! Yum.

@Helen: Yes, Helen, Nanaimo bars!!!! They're so damn good and I have a killer recipe but only make them at Christmas... have to watch my girlish figure! (giggle chuckle snort) ;-)
Really a beautiful picture. The colors are nice as is the wing movement. I can't take a picture of a bee much less a humming bird. :P

@Shrig: That's a very sweet thing to say... thank you. But practice practice practice.. LOL ;-)
Amy, Amy, Amy! He's coming right at us!
It's a wonder you didn't suffer a bit of personal injury.
