@Michael Rawluk: That's too funny Michael!!! Guess he was used to humans and was wiley enough to keep his comfort zone distance between you... Someone told me tho', that Freeman Patterson had been quoted as saying that if you look like you belong the wildlife will ignore you and you can get quite close. Now how the hell you look like you belong to an animal is beyond me but.... if you figure it out let me know!! LOL Thanks for the visit!!!

@Viewfinder: Thanks Viewfinder!! And the funny thing is that I wanted a shot of a heron by the water fishing!! But you're right, it is so much better in the tree. I don't think this was his nest... this was not an heron rookery. He just decided it was time for a snooze in any old tree. And I was fortunate enough to see him.

@Matt Trujillo Photography: Truly thank you Matt (aka the bird man). I had that trying not to wet my pants experience too with this heron!! LOL I was just trying to get my gear out of my trunk when out of the corner of my eye I see something. When I looked up this heron was gliding along just above the marsh only 50ft from me. As I was trying to keep myself calm and get my 100-300mm zoom on my camera he glided again to another tree (as I cursed him profusely for not waiting for me to be ready!!) He then just tried to make himself comfy in the tree as I clicked feverishly away. I waited to see if maybe he would fly off but after about 15min he was definitely well esconsed in his tree. He was still snoozing away when I came back to my car a couple hours later. I had fun pointing him out to all the newcomers in the parking lot, too. Spreading the joy, don't you know?!!! Including some bird watchers from England.

@Jen: My f-bomb friend!! Thanks!! This heron, after settling down in his tree, was actually sleeping when I got back from my walk. Had fun pointing him out to all the people in the parking lot. And yes, this tree, was right beside the parking lot so he was only about 100ft from us. But fairly hard to see unless you knew what you were looking for. Cool, eh?!
