Abraham Lake

Abraham Lake is about 1 1/2 hours from Rocky. It's actually a reservoir for a dam that was completed some 30 years ago. There's some great history about the building of this dam and reservoir including the discovery and then moving of a burial ground of the native's. I took this particular shot out at a place called Windy Point. One expects wind when out there but yesterday it was a bloomin' gale force wind. I could hardly stand, couldn't use my tripod, and damn near froze. Sigh. Not at all the blissful day of idyllic shooting I had anticipated. Never daunted (again) I took some handheld shots and called it close. LOL

@Dave MacIntyre: It really is a beautiful lake. The silt from the mountains gives it that beautiful turquoise colour.. like the famous Peyto Lake in Banff Nat'l Park... just easier to get to. Thanks Dave!!

@Roberta: I couldn't believe the waves!! It's a lake for god's sake. Albeit a big lake but those were damn near surfing size waves!! Really wish you had've been there too.

@Sidonie: The way the wind was blowing I didn't think any of the shots would turn out!! The trees all lean precariously for a reason!! LOL The colour of this lake is because of the silt from the mountains (or as some call it glacier flour). It is an amazing colour.. most people (tourists) take pictures of Peyto Lake in Banff Nat'l Park which really shows this amazing turquoise colour.

It is a special place... feels spiritual actually. And maybe that is because it was and still is a special place for the natives. They still have sundances in hidden meadows out there (which the gov't actually outlawed years ago).

@Behrooz: Behrooz!! My buddy, my pal!! No softening filter.. just the way the day was. The lake colour is because of the silt (glacier flour) that comes down from the spring melts and summer rains. So.... you're going to show me some of Iran? Ya baby!!
