Today is Remembrance Day (or Armistice Day) here in Canada. It's a day to remember those who have fought for our freedom. It really means a lot to me as my Grandfather was a liberating soldier for Auschwitz. He never talked about the war... in fact he never told anyone 'till much later in his life that he had been at Auschwitz. This is the day I take time to honor him and all those who were and are like him.
Just tell me what you think. I'm a big girl.... I won't cry for long. ;-)

This rocks, Amy. Lovely use of sepia tone, and exquisite off-centre composition to give the subject matter that hint of negativity and/or uncertainty. It's a rather moving series of words you've penned as well. :) I agree with you wholeheartedly about respecting those who fought for our rights. At the same time, I wish the evolutionary process of our species would speed up a fraction; being alive while no war is being fought is something I'd like mankind to aspire to...And who knows how many years I have left before this wish becomes merely an unfulfilled dream? :(
A stunning and poignant image.

@Bender Bending Rodriguez: I'm being optimistic here Sash when I say I doubt we will ever live in a world without war. There's too many who think their way is the only way and will never evolve to acceptance of other's ideas and ways. They can't even make the leap to acceptance; they don't understand that acceptance doesn't mean capitulation of their own ideals and beliefs. If we haven't gotten it right after how many millenium? how can we expect it to happen even in our lifetime. Although it's profound and simple in its statement, John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" will always be a sandcastle in the sky.
I adore the blur job

Thanks for this picture! I saw on TV a German old man who was urged to see what catastrophe the Nazi's had brought about inside tha camp, he said he had always remembered the words of a prisoner who came to comfort him while he was crying: "Tears are not enough my friend". This is what many Germans during the decades were conscious of and it's a great burden that they sould be forgiven. It could happen to many people trapped in fear, that's how the psyche works.
