The scope of the mountain scenery is mind boggling. We are very fortunate to have this in our backyard, so to speak, as Banff is only about 3 hours from where we live. I met a couple visiting from London, England, up on Sulphur Mountain and it wasn't until the woman said how lucky I was to be able to visit here on a weekend that I realized how much I do take my "backyard" for granted.
Just tell me what you think. I'm a big girl.... I won't cry for long. ;-)

great shot! I live about 20 mins from the rocky mountains, and I too take them for granted from time to time.. but I do love having them "in my backyard"...

You are so right. It is so easy to take your own "backyard" for granted. I remember as a New Orleans teen, me and my friends who lived there really thought we were bored. I now so miss Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River and the Quarter and downtown and the Garden District, and now Lakeview, Lake Vista, Gentilly, and St. Bernard Parish (all of which I took for granted until we moved away in '84).
But in my new environs, I do so much appreciate living close to the beach, the Gulf and all the things about my new Florida backyard. I may not photograph every square inch of it, but I'll take a stab at it.
As for your backyard, I'll not feel sad for your not being close to a defrosted beach anymore. Not when you are so close to something so spectacular as this!

How very true your image commentry is, it is easy for us to not see the extraordinary in our everyday locatiions. In my opinion there is the profound to be found everywhere on our planet. Good shot, incredibly dramatic scenery.

Blimey cutes..what a small and wondrous world it is hey..??... There's me and Mrs.Billy having a coffee and pastry in the Wild Flour Bakery in the Bison Courtyard on Bear Street in Banff, when this couple of folks from London say to me "why is that Baxter bird your No.1 Billy"..??,so,I showed her this shot of the mountains, and they said,(and I quote),"cor blimey O'Reilly, what an ace shot...!!" So,there you go pal,it ain't just me putting you on that lofty pedestal... Toodle ooh...Billyboyotraveller.....

@bronzebilly u.k.: I love how you google everything!! I bow in humbleness to your praise.
It's funny how that backyard thing works. At least you have us to remind you how beautiful it is.

Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. But a three hour drive is a bit of a distance, although I know you can see the mountains off on the horizon.
