The red polls were out here on Saturday feasting on the seeds with the juncos and chickadees. The bright red of their plumage looked so amazing. I had to take the shots through the window so the shots aren't as sharp as I'd wanted (and there was no way I was going out in that -31C weather). So some do have some tweaking and some don't. I've gotten a bit bored with my Banff/winter shots so am now going to do this little series of these red polls. They are similar but each will be a little different.
Another factoid: Canada is ranked number 1 among the coldest countries of the world. Hmmm, at least we're number 1 for something (besides hockey)! LOL
Just tell me what you think. I'm a big girl.... I won't cry for long. ;-)

Beautiful composition and detail, Amy. I once went snowboarding in -15 so I can only imagine how cold -31 is.

What a lovely picture Amy. Poor little bird has his feathers all puffed out to keep him a little warmer. He is gorgeous. This is a wonderful soft picture. I look forward to the rest.

bellissima, peccato per la poca nitidezza dello scatto, cmq molto bella!

Cold and a little sad! It has an original feeling.

If he can sit outside, I don't see why you shouldn't go out! :)

@DaveB: Let's see... reason 1. I'm a weenie, 2. I don't have to, 3. I'm a weenie LOL!!! ;-)
A lovely image and the slightly out-of-focus nature of it actually helps bring out the feeling of the cold, I think. Nice image.

wow what a cute bird, I wish the focus was more clear

Ha ha, your welcome to continue to be the no1 country for being so cold.....brrr
Nice to see the Redpolls, very pretty birds, we get them here too, but I rarely see them.

Beautiful shot...I'm always fascinated by the winter behavior of the birds that don't migrate south.

It's a beautiful shot of a little bird Amy! I know how you feel - I see them outside too and I get disappointed when I spot them and take them through the window! But this one is really nice - so soft and fluffy! ;-) Our temps have been warm compared with yours but it has snowed I'm pretty sure just about every other day for the whole winter - mostly the stuff that wets you through! Not the nice dry powder that you get! Now it has turned to rain and is so graaaay!!!! ;-)

This is a lovely shot, Amy! And I'm looking forward to see more of them!Tthe bird looks fine to me! I have sparrows coming on my balcony, but I cannot shoot them as much as I'd like to....the moment they see a movement in the room, they disappear.

A gorgeous little bird! I have no idea how you take it up there! I think I would invest in some sun lamps, space heaters and tropical indoor plants!!!

Congrats on being #1. And this is a very pleasing image, grain and all. I am not familiar with the name "polls" for anything other than voting. It looks like a sparrow, it that its family?
