Pine Grosbeak

This grosbeak was most especially colourful on Monday. I'm thinking its time for him to find a girlfriend.

I have finally (FINALLY) heard from the warranty people about my laptop. It's been 2 months of limbo. They are going to replace the laptop which is FABulous as the replacement is actually better than my crapped out one. However, I now have to pay the tech to do a "mirror" of my hard drive so I can get my images. I've finally figured out what must've happened to my backup discs... a magnet. I am now going to do the flash drive/stick thing. I've been using the one I have to use for work and they are just too FABulous. I will still look into getting an external hard drive but for now I'm thinking a GOOD flash drive will work. I'm just so HAPPY I finally got some results. And billy, I didn't have to cry!!

I love this bird shot, he is really beautiful. Super shot you got especially since he put the colorful part of himself in the shade. Great news about the laptop. Didn't you use ordinary CD-Rs to put your pics on. Only the CD-RW re-writeable ones will wipe off clean with magnetism - the thought of all those lovely photos you have shown us in the past, getting lost, is enough to make me weep!!!!!!!!

This is a suitor suited up for courting, I'd agree. As for your laptop, congrats! And I'd like to hear more about your flashdrive (how big?) and the kind of external drive you might be looking at, b/c I'm starting to think along those lines as well but haven't really started looking around at anything. In addition to my pix on the present hard drive I'm using, I also have huge files of music on my iPod site. I wonder if a tech can mirror those as well.

@Viewfinder: The flash drive/stick I've been using for work is a 4GB. It cost $65CDN (which is fairly par with USD right now) and it works soooo slick. It's a Tough Drive ATP. I plug it into the USB port, the computer says what are we doing with this and then I just copy and paste onto it. The only down side with the flash drive is how long it'll retain the data. It's really for transferring from work and home data that you're working on. An external hard drive really is the best choice for the storage of your data. The integrity won't be lost that way. This flash drive for me really is just an interim thing until I decide what I really want in an external hard drive. I'm pretty sure I'll get a 500GB external hard drive. From what I understand, hard drives now-a-days don't do the crashes they used to. What I can suggest is to go to www.pcmag.com. They have write ups on external drives. I'm sorry I'm not much help. I kind-of feel like a fish swimming up stream. LOL As to your iPod... haven't got a clue. I don't even own one!! LOL But I would assume that because it's all digital data that it would be easy enough to back up. But you'll need to talk to a tech about that. Whew! for someone who doesn't know much she sure rattles on, eh!! LOL Thanks always VF for all your wonderful comments and visits... and I do wish I could help more. ;-)

So So Beautiful!!! The focus and composition are just Fantabulous!
I have an external hardrive (actually my husband does, techy guy he is), so it's lickity split plug it in and done! Very cool...I was doing it with CD and DVD's but that was a HUGE pain in the keester!
my kids have my flash drive...school work!
Oh yeah and my youngest has confiscated my old camera...maybe a budding photographer...or he's just playing around to see what the big deal is LOL

What a beautiful bird, another superb close-up and top photographic technique. I'm glad you are getting the up to date laptop, hope its going to be a good one. An external drive is definitely the way to go, as well as a usb stick. I use both all the time, although I just got a 2nd hand Mini Mac to do my image work on, but all my images (about 20GB worth) are on my NTFS formatted external drive, as it was attached to my PC, and the Mac can't write to NTFS formatted drives - bah.

Anyway, good luck with the new kit.

Lucky you. Look closely and you will see I'm turning green. I'm really happy for you. In case you feel the need for additional input, it took me forever to finally get the external HD but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It really is plug and go. I feel much better having my stuff on that.
BTW... Well done on your grosbeak. I too have never seen one , so thanks.
