Roberta and I had a great day yesterday. We went all the way out to Preacher's Point which is the west end of Abraham Lake. I have no idea why they call it Preacher's Point. It's actually only in the last few years that they've posted a sign with Preacher's Point on it. Shrug. Some old story I suppose. We stopped at Windy Point to try to take a few shots and were met with the usual gale force winds (ergo Windy Point). We did try and I will post the one that turned out later. However, as we trudged out way back to the car whilst trying to stay upright in the "breeze", Roberta noticed that there was a small herd of Bighorn Sheep on the steep slope going down to the lake. Oh joy, oh joy!!!! The next few posts will be of these beasties. They really didn't care that we stood just above them snapping merrily away.... they just kept grazing.
Just tell me what you think. I'm a big girl.... I won't cry for long. ;-)

There are bighorns near where I used to live in central BC. They were not nearly so docile. It was impossible to get within a quarter mile of them. Very cool shot. They are beautiful animals.

A beautiful shot, Amy! You can see just a sliver of the lake in the upper right corner…doesn't appear to be frozen. Does that mean spring is in the air?
10 Mar 2008 12:34pm
@Ron: It's in the air but the lake is still frozen except in the really shallow parts around the edges. We've been far more lucky than those in eastern Canada... all our snow's almost gone. 'Course March isn't done yet!! LOL Thanks, Ron.
Wonderful shot Amy, a really super shot! I can see it in a wildlife mag. You are lucky to have a chance at taking photographs in such wonderful natural places. I imagine you will miss this when you move to the island. I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Wow, what a find!
They are such great animals. It amazes me how they can navigate the rocks, and cliffs so well.

It looks like there's hardly a blade of grass anywhere in sight, poor things. Very interesting, can't say I've ever been this close to one.
