Had opportunity to go out shooting with Roberta last night... so I grabbed it with both hands (remembered to pack my camera) and headed out the door. Roberta-backroads is the best to go out with. I wasn't able to get around to as many sites as I like to but will catch up... again... LOL. So this was from our little tour of the backroads. I used the image of the fence and broken down house as the background copy, did a layer copy (ctrl J), desaturated the second layer, blend mode of soft light (love that effect), went back to the background copy and added a slight diffuse glow filter, then added a third layer of an ice image with a soft light blend mode as well. Voila!
Just tell me what you think. I'm a big girl.... I won't cry for long. ;-)

Very cool effect Amy. I expect lessons when you move here. ;D. Good DOF and great subject matter.

Love this sort of work - it's 21century, with 19thcentury subject. Wonderful pp.

Oh! It's just like a painting Amy! Do you figure out all the layer work "By Guess and By God"? and just deleted the layer if it turns out not what you want - or do you do it from a lesson. This was well worth the time and effort. Didn't get around posting last night as I planned cos when I closed my glass china cabinet door - there was a big creak and I was left holding the little knob handle in my hand, and the big glass door panel shattered on the floor. Been trying to sort that one out today, how to get it repaired properly - and it would cost an arm and two legs to get the glass matched (has an inlaid border about 3" in) Sigh! Sigh! Did I mention the edge landed on my foot before it hit the floor and broke ;-(

@Anne: It's all guess and by golly, Anne. I have a basic "essence" in mind and then start playing. Sometimes it works... sometimes it's a complete and utter failure!! LOL That is so terrible about your china cabinet door... guess you don't know your own strength! LOL Well, hopefully it won't cost the earth to have repaired. Jeesh, there are just times when you get it coming and going. Is your foot ok?
Gosh Amy, you make it all sound soooooo easy :) This is an amazing piece of work and thank you, thank you, for the info on how to do this :)

Well done! I hadn't even thought of that perspective - and didn't want to be a copycat! Kind of wish I had now. ;-)

It looks like a tornado took part of the roof away. You guys find the most interesting locations. Very nicely composed.

Very nice, Amy. It's the ice layer that gives it that softened, aged effect (that I admired upon opening the image). Thanks for sharing your processing technique; it always helps to know how others get the final product they post. Of course it helps to have good images to work with ... and this is a beautifully composed shot. I love these old relics.
