Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaI think you are right. Mr. Robin Red Breast looks all puffed up against this untimely cold. My husband Ray took some pictures of our finches eating at the feeder with lots of snow around. When we got up Saturday morning they were completely covered in snow.....the bird feeders. It's almost gone though. 21 Apr 2008 6:14am Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaExcellent photo for such a depressing site, really truly depressing site, Poor Girl! I feel for you !!!! 21 Apr 2008 10:24am MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomPoor little Robin, I love the way his feathers are all fluffed up to keep out the cold of the snow and I can see by his beak he's been searching out worms. I bet if we're confused and fed up with the cold and snow this little guy must be really hacked off, bless him. A really perfect winter image Amy, I love it :) 21 Apr 2008 11:57am Roberta from Rocky Mtn House, CanadaNice shot. Poor little robin. I hope he can find enough food to survive this blast from hell (contrary to popular belief I believe Hell is a frozen wasteland!). 21 Apr 2008 1:47pm Man With 101 Names from Hamburg, United StatesThat little guy looks so cold ! I hope this weather breaks for you soon .... DAMN GLOBAL WARMING ! ;o) 21 Apr 2008 5:34pm @Man With 101 Names: Thanks Rob!! I hope so too... but I'm really starting to wonder about this global warming thing!! LOL Sidonie from Sydney, AustraliaGosh that looks cold! Beautiful clarity, great framing and focus. 21 Apr 2008 7:26pm ManuelaR from Hainburg, GermanyI feel for you too! But you still managed to catch a beautiful moment. Cheer up! 21 Apr 2008 8:11pm Helen from Melbourne, AustraliaBeautiful shot there Amy. So close! Were you out there with it or did you snap it through a basement window? I am trying to imagine you lying down in the snow ... if so I can see why you are complaining about the snow! I am surprised how brown the 'red' breast is. As I said the other day, I have never seen a robin. Is this colouring special to the robins in your area? 21 Apr 2008 8:42pm @Helen: I was out there in the elements and damn near laying flat but was just crouching... and may I say crouching for too long as when I got up, big OUCH! He was so focused on the worms he didn't care about me. The breast is more of a red/rust colour. Maybe I did need to bump the saturation a bit more as paulski had suggested. Hmmm. These robins are a migratory bird. Here in the spring and summer to nest and breed then back down south for the winter. So no the colouring isn't special to our area. They're actually the American Robin (Turdus migratorius). They're a member of the thrush family. We love to see the robin come home as to us he's the harbinger of spring. Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesGreat capture, Amy ... he certainly looks like he's doing his best to stay warm! 21 Apr 2008 8:46pm bronzebilly u.k. from Barry,Vale of Glamorgan, United KingdomHey cutes..contrary to popular belief...this "robin" redbreast is actually a female..you can distinguish this by the extra weight showing,as compared to yesterday's male posting...her beak is messy from poking it where it's not wanted..and the snow has melted all around her, probably from all the hot air ...*-)) 21 Apr 2008 9:28pm @bronzebilly u.k.: You are a very silly man... which tends to go hand in hand - silly=man. Jeesh, just like a man not to notice a female who's pregnant, suffering hot flashes, and just trying to get dinner ready for the family as usual. However, you silly twit, that's the same robin for both postings. BWAHAHAHAHA Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South AfricaSuch a great image Amy.....it made me think of a story my mom used to read me when I was little - Tad the Cat. Love the snow flakes falling around him. 21 Apr 2008 9:41pm Gary from Cochise County, United StatesExcellent detail in the feathers. Amazing little ones to say the least. What are you feeding them. They look more plump in every shot. 21 Apr 2008 10:34pm @Gary: They're all fluffed up to keep warm.... and from gorging on the worms. 'Course now that there's a foot of snow they can't even get the worms. Thanks so much Gary .. always. ;-) Jen from Alpharetta, United StatesOh Amy...you poor poor thing!!! 22 Apr 2008 12:48am @Jen: They're promising above zero temps come Wednesday... ain't holding my breath. Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaMother Nature must be pissed at me because it seems to snow where ever I go. 22 Apr 2008 3:00am @Michael Rawluk: It's still snowing here... are you here? Didn't think so, so no she's not pissed at you. LOL!! Totally bizarre weather. We got a snow day today... they closed the office for day. Woohoo!!! Stunner from Kingston, JamaicaSuch a cute little thing! Another lovely shot of this birdie! Don't worry Spring will be there soon! 22 Apr 2008 5:07am Betsy Barron from Glenmoore, United StatesI like the subject, but it's underexposed and I can't see the great detail I want - would love to see this tweaked - both saturation & curves! 22 Apr 2008 9:24pm |
