Today is Remembrance Day. A day to remember and reflect upon all those who have fought for our rights and freedoms. Canada is a great place to thrive.... an amazing place to live... Remember those who have fought and are still fighting for our freedom and way of life.

Of course it is "Armistice Day." On the the 11th hour or the 11th Day of the 11th month the guns fell silent." It was 1918. We used to mark the day by wearing a poppy to mark the horrible losses in Flanders field.

If I asked my kids what day this is, they wouldn't have any idea if I didn't tell them.

Sad.

@MontereyJohn: We still wear the poppy and mark the day. Throughout the country we have ceremonies at the cenotaphs and observe the 2 minutes of silence at the 11th hour. Having had a grandfather who was a liberating soldier at Auschwitz in WWII it carries a lot of weight for me. I am thankful to those who sacrifice and have sacrificed so much for us.

My maternal grandfather had a bullet go through his leg, through his horse, then through his other leg during The War to End All Wars. The horse ran until grandfather was safely back in camp and then fell down dead. My grandfather was fixed up and eventually fought again and ended with a plate in his head.

I adore this black bottom which enables us to appreciate this flower, the blur brings us directly in the middle of this one, the light seems to me hard, centering is excellent Bravo ;)

Thanks Amy....my grandfather was one of the soldiers who liberated the WWII death camps too. He survived the war but died of Cancer in the late 60s before I was really old enough to get to know him properly. Our post war generation has been very lucky and I always wear my poopy with a great deal of pride.
