on gossamer wings

Posted by amy (Nanaimo, BC, Canada) on 14 April 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

It was pouring rain when I took these next few posts so I had to set the ISO to 800 to try and get some wing detail. I sat under our gazebo in the backyard with hot tea and just waited for the hummers. I'm learning that with hummingbirds they can be particular about the feeder. So far, the two I have are meeting their standards... judging by how often I'm having to refill them. They can be very territorial and will literally fight to the death. Just the other evening we watched two fight until they were on the ground with the one on top clutching the bottom one's neck. Dan got up and startled the one choking the bottom fellow enough that he flew off and so did the other.

You can view my gallery of images and calendar for sale at: cute but stupid . I'm slowly adding more to the site and if there is something in my portfolio you would like to purchase but is not available on my site just contact me and I'll make it available.

I appreciate all visits and comments and thank you always... ;-)
