I like the DOF - it makes the photo very interesting

@Art Monkey: Hey Art!! Thanks! I know it's kind-of a repeat but the image I tried to upload, uploaded really pixelated. Not sure why.. ;-)
Really nice colour and the upside down reflections and contrast of the blackbird give it an almost surreal look, good shot

@Richard_Irwin: Thanks as always Richard!! Hopefully the rain will dissipate soon so I can go out to the marshes again.
Really nice shot Amy - love the reflections and the bird - I don't think he is a blackbird because he has red and yellow flashes in his feathers - do you know what kind he is? ;-)
PS. Have I got a photo for you!!!!

@Anne: Hey Anne, you know we've always thought these were Red Wing Black Birds. I think maybe I'm going to have to look it up to be sure. I actually tried to post an ocean shot in black and white but it uploaded really pixelated which ticked me off as it's a great image. Will have to work some on it and figure out why the heck it looks great on my computer yet pixelated on the site. Any suggestions?
@Anup Payyakkil: Thanks a lot Anup! Really appreciate your visits and comments. ;-)
You bird babe you!!! Great shot...fantastic dof!!
I keep trying to get a good capture of the cardinals behind my house...their quick! LOL

@Jen: Oh I want to see a shot of a cardinal!! We don't get them here and they are sooo incredible. Stalk them girl!!!! LOL Thanks as always my friend! Have a great weekend and hopefully come Monday we'll be able to get back up again on the site.
@craiger: Hey Craig!! Thanks... like said to Anne et al, I'm sorry this shot is a bit of a repeat but the black and white ocean shot I wanted to upload uploaded really pixelated. Can't figure out why. I changed the size down to 800 px and did a bicubic smoother but... and it's too big for me to upload on my dial-up otherwise. Am a bit frustrated....
this isn't an easy shot... not when you are using a long tele lens at 450mm! you are very brave to use such a lens as it's not easy to get sharp shots at that focal length!
but still it has good composition, contrast of colours and great DOF!
just curious - what lens did you use? :)

@Kairospix: Hey there Kairospix!! It's actually a 70-300mm zoom... it shows 450mm because that would be the equivalent if this were 35mm instead of the digital. But you are also right about the focus even at 300mm.. I've learned to use my tripod!!! Thanks so much for all your visits, Kairospix, I really appreciate all you say!!!! ;-)
He looks like he was either about to sing, or just finished singing! Nice shot. Yes, it's a red winged blackbird. Not sure about the pixelated problem though - I'm guessing something to do with your save settings though.
4 May 2007 2:51pm
@Roberta: Thanks Roberta!! Yeah, I thought that too but even when I go back to the psd file and try to resave etc it goes really pixelated. Will have to play with it this weekend... I hope..
Very nice captuere, Amy. I love the song of Red Wings. These are touch shots because the reeds waver under the weight and movement of the bird.
4 May 2007 2:58pm
@Robert: I so love these bird's song, too!! To mean it means spring is here and summer on the way!! I was lucky with the amount of light I had for these shots so that the cat tails weren't a big issue. Thanks Robert... ;-D
Nice capture! Looks like he is thinking about his next move.
4 May 2007 4:42pm
@Stunner: Hey there Stunner!! Yeah, he was actually just finishing his song. I could watch and listen to their song for ever... they are so great to watch. ;-)
@badala: Thanks badala!! These birds are such a great subject.. hope to get some more when it greens up around here.
Wow, you have really exploited this bird to the fullest and have captured her everywhere it sat ;-) Nice one Amy. :)

@Rahul: Thanks Rahul! Yeah, I took lots of shots of them... had to share the good ones. Hopefully, the weather will clear up enough this weekend for me to get some more new shots... macros I hope.. ;-)
@objectif-P: Hey there objectif!! Thanks so much for your eloquent remark... always appreciate your visits ;-D
amy, i'm glad to visit your site!
and... ah i see... yes yes a D70 has a 1.5X factor... how could i forget!
are you using the 70-300mm Nikkor lens? is it good?
yeah, you're right about the tripod... they can be a tremendous help in getting sharper shots... i have a simple but not so well constructed one and currently still deciding on a btter model but the btter ones can be so expensive... sigh :(

@Still: Thanks Still!! ;-D
@Behrooz: Thanks Behrooz!! I think I have some catching up to do. Just realized Am3's back up!!
A beautiful creature in a breathtaking environment. We don't see these around my parts so it's a real treat to see them elsewhere. BTW, I love the colour spectrum. :)

@Sash: Thanks again so much Sash! Yeah, these red wings are a favourite. To me it's a true sign of spring when you start hearing their song... Glad I could share it with you. ;-)
